Why I DON'T Want a Personal Trainer ~

Why I DON'T Want a Personal Trainer ~
Current mood: aggravated
Category: Life

I was told today not to lift so heavy, that it doesn't do me any good. It just makes me strong, doesn't give me any form or anything.

And I need to learn how to breath because I'm going to break blood vessels while lifting.

So I agree to listen to the jerk for a few minutes and let him show me how to lift weights. I told him that I don't like trainers because I feel like they baby you, they limit you. He disagrees - I MUST learn how to use the equipment properly!

First thing he does is put me on a machine, puts a lot of weight on it and tells me to go, so I do about 3 reps, he stops me. Ok, he lessens the weight and tells me to do 12 reps. I do 12 reps. He lessens the weight and again, 12 reps. I do 12 reps.

I was in a bike accident and my left elbow, wrist, knee and shoulder were damaged. I immediately open myself up to injury by letting this guy "train me" because he's now in charge of what I do. My elbow started hurting because he's telling me I HAVE to do so many reps and blah blah blah. I do whatever my body can do, not some "idea" of what I should do. Why do I have to do 12, 24 reps of anything?? Says who?

He asks me why I come to gym. I go to relax.
"RELAX??? No, you go to the library to relax! Read a book!"
I look at him, "No that's YOUR idea of relaxing! My idea of relaxing is to come to the gym and lift as much as I can - to challenge myself!"

By the way, I have YET to feel challenged by lifting. I either cannot lift it or I can but it hasnt gotten high enough to challenge me. I know the feeling I am looking for and it hasnt arrived yet. When I exceed limits then I will feel it!

He tells me not to lift so much because its not doing anything for me and I should be doing less weight and tons of reps.

Perhaps hes just jealous that I can lift as much or more than him!

This is my philosophy on weight lifting.
No matter what I do, it's better than doing nothing!
Leave me alone!
