BATTLE LINES: Hazleton, Pa., where Hispanics have swelled the population, announced a crackdown on illegal immigrants after two were charged with killing a man. The ACLU sued, saying the federal government has exclusive jurisdiction over immigration.

(Than the ACLU can house all illegal immigrants with their own fees, unless the ACLU wants to be held accountable by the tax payers of the United States of America for squandering tax payer money for illegal activity.)

IN COURT: A federal trial starting Monday will determine whether Hazleton is permitted to enforce a first-of-its-kind law that would target landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and companies that employ them.

WHY IT MATTERS: Dozens of cities and towns around the nation have duplicated Hazleton's approach. The case, expected to be appealed no matter what the decision, may ultimately determine whether local governments may act on their own to curb illegal immigration.
